Scope of the SAP system copy
Hybrid: for example, the source systems on-premises and the target systems on cloud
A non-production SAP system should also have the same repository status as the source system, regardless of the data transfer method chosen for the refresh. All the data that makes up an SAP system is stored in the repository. This includes, among other things, the definitions for the database fields and tables for master and transaction data.
An SAP system copy is not done in an hour. Due to the large amount of data in an SAP system, the individual steps can take a long time to complete. The export and the import do not always run without errors. Often one is held up by troubleshooting. Of course, the target system must be prepared before the actual copy can be performed: Setting up the server, installing the operating system and database software, downloading and copying the installation media. During the export, the source system cannot be used. Therefore, this task must be planned well and in advance.
Pre- and post-processing
The actual implementation of the SAP system refresh comprises several technical steps. The refresh is often carried out by means of a complete system copy, in which the database of the source system is transferred to the target system. Once the database has been restored, numerous downstream adjustments must be made to ensure that the system functions correctly. This includes, for example, adjusting the system IDs, configuring interfaces and checking user authorizations. The control of batch processes is particularly critical, as incorrect job planning can lead to planned tasks not being executed correctly.
The freeware Scribble Papers puts an end to the confusing paper chaos. The tool is also suitable for storing, structuring and quickly finding text documents and text snippets of all kinds in addition to notes.
With Automated System Copy for SAP, an SAP system copy can be scheduled and executed in a parallel mode, which has the advantage of reducing manual intervention to a minimum. In addition, daily work can continue as normal. Rehau had already been using the software provider's Business Automation platform for cross-platform scheduling of complex job chains since 2004. The existing installation was expanded to include the module for creating SAP system copies.
"Shortcut for SAP Systems" provides an automated solution for many of the tasks involved in copying SAP systems by enabling the backup and restore of any table.
Companies must therefore plan the process carefully to ensure that no business-critical processes are affected.
This aspect is particularly important in regulated industries, such as healthcare or the financial sector.
